tuition fees
An investment that pays off!
Study privately: Invest in your future
Why go to a private university and pay tuition fees when I can study for free at any state university? Find out here why it's worth investing in a private degree programme and how high the tuition fees are at Witten/Herdecke University.
Why tuition fees at all?
With a degree programme, you lay the decisive foundation for your future appointment. It goes without saying that you should take a close look at potential universities and degree programmes. The topic of student financing is also extremely important when choosing a degree programme. There are no tuition fees at state universities in NRW and other German federal states. So why study at the private Witten/Herdecke University and pay tuition fees for a degree programme?
Because we are convinced that you deserve more than a simple degree programme! All degree programmes at Witten/Herdecke University are accredited and state-recognised. They are equivalent to degrees from state universities. What is different about studying at Witten/Herdecke University?
With us, you get more than just a degree programme: We offer you
- excellent academic teaching,
- optimal study conditions and
- we support you individually.
This generates costs that we can only cover through tuition fees. But the investment in a private degree programme at Witten/Herdecke University is worth it!
Here you are human and not a numerus
At Witten/Herdecke University, you are a person, not a number. You take centre stage: your personality, your needs and your goals. Here you get the support and freedom you need to find and follow your own individual career path.
That's why your tuition fees are worth it!
With us, you're not just a student ID number
While at state universities you usually study in overcrowded lecture halls and in an anonymous atmosphere, at Witten/Herdecke University you learn in small seminar and study groups right from the start. We have only 21 studentsper professor . By comparison, the average ratio in NRW is 1:61.
Professors with excellent expertise and a first-class reputation teach at UW/H. You'll look in vain for frontal lecture in our seminars. Instead, there is an intensive exchange and constructive discussions at eye level with our lecturers. Here you will gain intensive learning experiences that will benefit you throughout your professional life.

Here you apply what you have learnt directly
What use is all the theoretical knowledge if you haven't learnt how to put it into practice? No matter what subject you are studying at Witten/Herdecke University, with us you will be involved in practice from day one of your studies. We familiarise our future doctors and therapists with everyday clinical and therapeutic practice, and in the business degree programmes you will work on real projects with practice partners.

Create your very own educational profile
Would you like to take a look at another subject during your studies and try it out alongside your degree programme? This is hardly possible at most universities without losing time and credits. At Witten/Herdecke University, we encourage our students to develop beyond their own degree programme. This is possible, for example, in Studium fundamentale, which is an integral part of every degree programme. In over 100 elective courses, students from all subjects come together to deal with politics, current affairs, ethical and philosophical issues, research methods, culture and society or to engage in artistic activities. This change of subject-specific perspective broadens your horizons, promotes new ideas and gives you skills that are important for your future and a successful professional life.
With subject-specific additional qualifications, such as the nano-degrees in the business degree programmes or accompanying medical studies in the health degree programmes, you can further sharpen your profile and give yourself a competitive edge.
You decide what your degree programme should look like
Witten/Herdecke University is private. We are largely self-financed. We are independent and, unlike a state university, we have more freedom to organise our studies in such a way that students find the best possible conditions. We can therefore offer you many options during your studies so that you can organise your studies in the way that is best for you.
It is important to us that our students help shape the university and university life. If you like, you can participate in one or more of our internal university administrative bodies and contribute your ideas and suggestions.
Through their tuition fees, our students are automatically part of the StudierendenGesellschaft. The StudierendenGesellschaft is an independent association that takes care of student financing at Witten/Herdecke University. The association has a significant share in the university. Here, too, you can contribute your opinion and play an active role in the development of your UW/H.
