Needless to say, professional qualification is a major objective of studies in Witten. But we believe that more is involved than mere methodological competences and knowledge transfer. Future leaders and decision-makers need a broad-based education - a type of education which exceeds the boundaries of a single discipline in order to become effective in the field of work and convey navigational competences for the future. This is what we offer in two respects: we always consider economic science in wider scientific, social and political contexts; in addition, fundamental studies offer essential scope for reflection and a change of perspective and thus help to prevent tunnel vision.  

With the Bachelor of Choice, we offer you the full flexibility to tailor your studies according to your wishes. All Bachelor's degree programmes at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society are interconnected. If you realise within the first year that your chosen degree programme is not the right fit for you after all: that's no problem, you can simply change to another degree programme within the Bachelor of Choice model. All your achievements will be transferred. You have nothing to lose - neither credits nor time!

You are interested in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) but can also imagine a career in Management? You are looking for international adventures, but not only of the touristic kind? You want to position yourself internationally without compromising your chances on the German labour market? You want the best of both worlds? Then the double degree programme organized in collaboration with the University of Victoria/­Canada is perfect for you. After two years of the UW/H Bachelor programme in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), participants transfer to Victoria into the BCom curriculum. Upon graduation they are awarded both degrees, acquired at two universities in two countries and two languages.

The Witten Congress for Family Businesses is the largest event of its kind in Europe and a regular annual occasion at Witten/Herdecke University since 1988. It offers a suitable context for the immediate transfer of academic findings into practice and for exchange and discussion among business families. A specific feature is that a student team is in charge of the organization. Family business representatives find an ideal and protected setting for debate, advice and support. Consultants, banks and the press are not admitted.
