The Political Economy of Mozambique
Project overview
In this project, Joachim Zweynert and several colleagues examine the relationship between politics and business in a typical limited access order, in which access to political and economic positions is systematically restricted to members of the ruling coalition.
In 2021, a first publication appeared in the Journal of Institutional Economics under the title "Multinational Enterprises, Political Institutions, and Violence: A Case Study from Mozambique" (co-authored with Carlos Mairoce and Magdalene Silberberger). A second publication under the working title "Beyond Weakness: Managing the Institutional Challenges of Operating in a Limited Access Order. The case of Vodacom Mozambique" is currently in preparation.
