SocNet-TNB
Differentiated recording of social networks of trans* and non-binary people
Project overview
In research, the totality of social contacts is described as a person's social network. This network also describes the interaction with others and how the person is doing with these contacts.
For trans* and non-binary people, social contacts can be a double-edged sword: on the one hand, scientific surveys show that supportive contacts in the environment are enormously important. Supportive relationships keep trans* and non-binary people mentally healthy and help to alleviate stress. On the other hand, trans* and non-binary people repeatedly report a lack of acceptance or even discrimination from other people.
The SocNet-TNB study aims to analyse the supportive and stressful relationships of trans* and non-binary people in a more differentiated way than before. It also aims to investigate the influence of differentiated relationship aspects from social networks on mental health and identity development.
