Scoring

Analysis of the social credit system in the People's Republic of China and scoring in Germany (SCHUFA et al.) to promote European-Chinese cooperation

Project overview

The research project Scoring analyses the social credit system in the People's Republic of China and scoring in the West to promote European-Chinese cooperation. Scoring is analysed in science and health as well as in the data infrastructure.

2000 - 2020 The Chinese government introduced a social credit system in which all companies and individuals are recorded. The behaviour of each individual and each company is assessed by a trustworthiness score or blacklist entries and directly translated into privileges or restrictions.

In this way, the behaviour of citizens is steered in the direction desired by the government (external control). Even in Western data capitalism, large IT companies maintain scoring systems that create personality, credit and health profiles, for example. In a future study by the BMBF, the introduction of a bonus point system in Germany for 2030 was envisaged as one of six probable scenarios. The project aims to create the conditions for an informed decision on whether to introduce scoring.
