Development and validation of a diversity-sensitive questionnaire to record satisfaction with inpatient hospital care

The generic care satisfaction questionnaire VeZuF and the birth-related care satisfaction questionnaire VeZuF-Birth

Project overview

Satisfaction with care is a key component of the quality of care, which is not only collected for benchmarking purposes as a quality assurance measure and allows optimisation potential in care to be identified - the average satisfaction of other patients with a hospital is also an important criterion for patients to decide for or against a hospital.

A variety of different instruments are available for the standardised recording of care satisfaction. One limitation of many of these instruments is the lack of theoretically derived and confirmatory measurement models. Another challenge that has not yet been adequately addressed is the need for diversity-sensitive data collection.

The aim of the project was to create a questionnaire based on previous approaches in German- and English-speaking countries, with the same validity and depth of information as existing questionnaires, which is characterised by simple language and a high degree of diversity sensitivity. In addition to a generic questionnaire version for hospital patients of all indication groups (Care Satisfaction Questionnaire [VeZuF]), a questionnaire specifically geared towards the field of obstetrics was developed (obstetrics-related Care Satisfaction Questionnaire [VeZuF-Geburt]). The instruments were created in German and Turkish as examples.
