PSK - Needs-based care for nursing home residents by reducing nursing home-sensitive hospital cases
Project overview
The study examined hospitalisations of nursing home residents and focused in particular on the question of whether and which stays are avoidable. The researchers developed a catalogue of hospital cases that could be reduced through needs-based treatment in nursing homes; they calculated that almost 35% of all hospitalisations from nursing homes could be avoided and potentially 770 million euros could be saved per year.
They also developed recommendations for action that show which structural changes are necessary for this and could be refinanced from the savings.
