Orchestra of the UW/H

We make the UW/H resound

The Witten/Herdecke University Symphony Orchestra brings together string players, wind players and percussionists to make music together. From students and teaching staff to UW/H alumni - the entire university community is welcome to join the orchestra.

Under the direction of University Music Director Ingo Ernst Reihl, the ensemble prepares a concert programme every semester, consisting of symphonic works and large oratorios.

The weekly orchestral rehearsals are part of the artistic programme offered by the WittenLab. Zukunftslabor Studium fundamentale.

You can join the university orchestra:

What do I need to know before taking part?

How much music is in you?

Tell us about your experience!

We are delighted that your heart beats for music! To become part of the orchestra, you need to play an instrument and be able to read grades. Have you already gained some orchestral experience? That's great, as we work on large symphonic works.

Please contact us before the first rehearsal and register. This way we can make sure that your instrument fits into the orchestra and that there are no duplicates. Don't worry, there is no public audition.

We are here for you!

The most important information
in advance

This will prepare you for participation in the university orchestra:

Members of the orchestra meet on Thursdays from 19:15 to 22:00 for rehearsals in the event hall of the Holzgebäude on the UW/H campus (Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße 48, Witten). You will receive grades and a music stand at the rehearsals. Please bring a pencil with you.

Membership of the orchestra is fulfilling, but also time-consuming! Please consider carefully in advance whether participation fits into your schedule.
It is important for the entire ensemble that you regularly attend the weekly rehearsals and the fixed rehearsal weekends.
