OpenNotes: Transparency in doctor-patient communication
Project overview
The IGVF is investigating how patients' access to their medical records affects trust, self-efficacy and adherence to treatment.
Online, via a secure patient portal, all documents relating to their treatment and care are made available to patients at the university outpatient clinic - including all notes made by therapists and doctors during consultations.
The researchers expect that this will increase patients' trust in their doctors and that patients will experience greater self-efficacy.

Use of OpenNotes with psychiatric patients
The use of OpenNotes, where patients are given access to their medical records, is particularly controversial in the treatment of vulnerable groups such as psychiatric patients. The IGVF is investigating what German psychiatrists think about this in a study.
To this end, interviews are being conducted with psychiatrists to find out what advantages and disadvantages they see in OpenNotes. These results will then be incorporated into a future study that will analyse how psychiatric patients themselves assess OpenNotes.
