Intention-to-leave: Nurses' intentions to change jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic
Project overview
This project investigates the reasons why nurses in Germany are thinking about changing jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The aim is to understand the factors that influence this intention in order to develop strategies to improve staff retention and quality of care.
To this end, a survey was conducted between March and June 2021 among hospital employees throughout Germany. 4,315 people took part in the survey.
Aims of the project:
- To analyse the emotional factors that influence nursing staff's intention to change jobs
- Investigating the effects of aspects such as perception of coherence, perception of staff, perceived quality of care and feeling of safety on the intention to change jobs.
- Examination of other relevant factors such as time pressure and work disruption.
Further information
- Duration: since November 2022
- Responsible: Institute for Integrative Health Care and Health Promotion (IGVF)
Expected results
We expect to identify important emotional and perceptual factors that influence nurses' turnover intentions during the pandemic.
These findings should help policy makers and healthcare organisations to take measures to reduce turnover and improve staff retention and quality of care.
