Flash mob study on COVID-19

Project overview

The results of the study were presented at DEGAM 2021, discussed at a research practice meeting, published in the Zeitschrift für Allgemeinmedizin and won second place in the DESAM-ForNet Research Award 2022 in the category "Everyday practice in times of COVID-19".

Background to the study
In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, GPs and their medical assistants (MFAs) are reporting not only a high level of telephone use, but also the associated high communicative and psychological stress caused by patients seeking advice or often demanding patients. Little is known about the actual extent and the communicative and medical dimensions of this counselling function.

The aim of this study was therefore to record how often GP practices are contacted by telephone on an average day with questions about COVID-19, which counselling occasions are discussed and how stressful this is actually perceived by medical assistants.

The results on the frequency and workload of GP practices during the pandemic can help to develop targeted strategies to relieve the burden.
