German translation and adaptation of the "Everyday Discrimination Scale" for the care sector

Project overview

Discrimination occurs in many areas of life. In the workplace, discrimination can not only have a negative impact on those affected, but can also affect the entire working environment and corporate culture. Until now, there has been no questionnaire in German-speaking countries to record discrimination (including physical and psychological violence) that patients/clients/residents direct against carers and that relates to characteristics such as migration background, age, gender, religion/belief, disability or sexual identity.

The aim of this study was to adapt and translate the Everyday Discrimination Scale (EDS) by Williams et al. (J Health Psychol 1997;2:335-51) for this area and to test its psychometric properties among carers in Germany.
