Effectiveness of fascia training for depression
Project overview
Fasciae are collagen-like connective tissue structures that envelop muscles and organs like a network. They significantly influence the shape and movement behaviour of the body.
In a study, we were able to prove that the fasciae of depressed people are stiffer and less elastic than those of non-depressed people. We also found that brief fascia treatment has a favourable effect on the mood and memory processes of depressed people.
In the current project, we are conducting a randomised controlled trial to investigate whether targeted fascia training can reduce symptoms in depressed people. We want to find out whether fascia therapy carried out over eight weeks can loosen the muscular connective tissue and whether this has a long-term favourable effect on the psychological symptoms of depressed people.
