Diversity-sensitive concepts and measures in dental care (DiKoM)

A mixed-methods study to develop a handbook for the implementation of diversity-sensitive approaches in healthcare practice

Project overview

Social diversity in Germany, including with regard to diversity characteristics such as age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or migration backgrounds, is also accompanied by different needs and expectations in healthcare. Taking these needs and expectations into account in the best possible way is a prerequisite for user-centred care.

To date, however, there has been little research into which concepts and measures are suitable for this purpose in dental care, which approaches are already being used in practice and which factors can facilitate or prevent implementation.

The aim of the DiKoM project was therefore to first identify available and suitable measures and concepts for diversity-sensitive care from the perspective of dentists and dental assistants, to investigate the current status of implementation in dental care practice and finally to determine relevant factors influencing implementation, the underlying mechanisms as well as resources and barriers.
