Research
I have been working on digitalisation in the health care system since 2006. As a computer scientist initially coming from a technical perspective, the human factor now plays a decisive role. Specifically, I explore the questions of how digitalisation is changing work in the health care system. Human-human interaction is becoming human-technology interaction, with the aim of increasing efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare.
Using qualitative and quantitative research methods, the acceptance of technology by patients and healthcare professionals is measured, the digital maturity level of healthcare facilities is recorded and instruments for measuring and describing the evidence of new healthcare technologies are developed. Trend topics such as artificial intelligence run through many strands of research, but also require new skills on the part of healthcare providers.
With the project DIM.RUHR: Data Competence Centre for the Interprofessional Use of Health Data(www.dim.ruhr), which I am leading, we are currently working on establishing data and digital skills.
My research is supported by a large number of doctoral students from the fields of medicine, computer science, psychology and economics.
