- Basic and translational research: interaction of viruses and the human genome including epigenetic changes, in particular research into epigenetic mechanisms and diagnostic biomarkers
- Clinical studies: imaging in chronic diseases in childhood, connection between inflammation and cardiovascular dysfunction, pharmacological studies in children and adolescents with chronic inflammatory bowel disease or other chronic GI diseases
- Health care research: clinical guideline adherence - between guidelines and reality
