Research

The Chair of Pharmacology and Toxicology is concerned with the variability of genes and their associated proteins, which are the target structures of so-called "targeted therapy".

In particular, studies are carried out on the four protein prenyltransferases and their inhibitors (inhibitors). Prenyltransferases are important enzymes in the development of very common diseases, such as various types of cancer or hepatitis D, as well as in very rare diseases, such as progeria. The antibacterial potential of prenyltransferase inhibitors is also being investigated in order to provide approaches for the development of new antibiotics.

In addition to basic research on these genes, proteins and inhibitors, translational issues of individualised drug therapy are addressed in particular.
