British colonial officials in Africa as actors in the transfer of institutions
Project overview
This project is concerned with the question of what can be learnt about the technique of institutional transfer from the activities of British colonial officials in Africa. How did (individual) colonial officials as "bricoleurs" succeed in transplanting British law and British institutions into different political, social and cultural contexts? The project is based on more than 100 semi-structured interviews conducted by Valentin Seidler in the 2010s with the last surviving former colonial civil servants.
